Iowa’s highest spot and the 42nd highest US state summit, 1,670-foot Hawkeye Point is located in Iowa’s northwest quadrant, not far south of the Minnesota border. With less than 50 feet of prominence, Hawkeye Point is far from the most prominent peak in Iowa. This highpoint is a drive up, and a short stroll will take you to the highest ground. This highpoint is wheelchair accessible.

To get to Hawkeye Point by car, go to Sheldon, IA on US 60, go northeast on US 60 past the town of Ashton, then through the town of Sibley. Stay on US 60,  go 2.4 miles northeast of Sibley, and turn right or east onto a road signed for Hawkeye Point. This turn is 15.3 miles south of Exit 45 on Interstate 90 in Minnesota. Go east past the first house, turn right onto the second driveway, and park near the grain elevators.

From your parking spot, walk south past a red barn,  and find the highpoint near a circular mosaic. There are a lot of features near here. Feel free to explore the area.
