State Highpoints – Rhode Island - 812-foot Jerimoth Hill

Rhode Island’s highest spot and the 46th highest US state summit, 812-foot Jerimoth Hill is located in Rhode Island’s northwest quadrant, well west of Providence, and close to the Connecticut border. With 197 feet of prominence, Jerimoth Hill is only the 12th most prominent peak in Rhode Island. The access to this highpoint is on private property, and access is limited to the trail that goes around the private property. This highpoint is wheelchair accessible, probably with some assistance.

To get to Jerimoth Hill by car, take Exit 93 off of Interstate 395 near the CT/RI border, and take CT State Road 101 to Dayville CT. Go 4.7 miles east on SR 101, and cross into RI. Continue 0.7 mile on SR 101, crest a hill, and look for the sign indicating the RI state Highpoint. The sign is near a metal radio tower. For westbound travelers, the sign is 1.0 mile west of the junction of SR 101 and SR 94. Park on the highway near the sign, but don’t pull into any private driveways.

Walk over to the sign, and if you are not there on one of the designated days or times, you can count this as the RI Highpoint. Otherwise, there is a trail leading south into the woods that you can walk for a short distance to reach the real Highpoint. The real Highpoint is on public land.
