What:
Fred Beckey – Mountains of North America
Hard Cover, Signed, Coffee Table Size, 1982 by the Sierra Club
Fred Beckey was the most accomplished peakbagger of the 20th century, with hundreds of first ascents on peaks and major routes. He recently passed away at age 93 in 2017, and a major movie entitled “Dirtbag” was produced with his cooperation and has been making the film festival circuits lately.
The text is by Fred Beckey, and Fred selected the photos from 58 preeminent nature photographers. The book features chapters on 35 of the most outstanding North American peaks, including 10 state highpoints.
This book is Beckey’s look back at some of his favorite peaks. A handful are not difficult, such as Katahdin and Black Elk Peak, and others are difficult, such as Mount Waddington and Mount Saint Elias. Beckey delves deeply into each peak, devoting 5-10 pages to each peak. |
